[I’m dedicating this post to my friend J. You know who you are :)]
Yesterday I spent my final night in the city of San Francisco. It’s been 7 long years and it’s time to move on. I’ll probably pop back in for a short visit here and there to see friends, but I will no longer spend any significant time there. I’ve started my road trip to finish writing BOX and be all by myself out in the great beyond of the US of A. First stop. Vegas, baby! (More on that in following posts)
Before I left I spent one final night with a friend at the newly opened Exploratorium. She happened to have an extra ticket and offered to take me. What an awesome send off! I had been wanting to go to the new installation and wasn’t sure when I’d get a chance again. The place is even more fantastic than the old installation. They have all sorts of contraptions and doo-dads outside the entrance way. My mind was drooling before we even entered the building. As soon as we entered this transpired:
That’s a little toilet humor for you (pardon the obvious pun). That’s right, folks. They have a toilet drinking fountain. After my refreshing drink of toilet water, we headed towards the theater where physicists JoAnne Hewett and Maria Spiropulu were going to give a talk on the discovery of Higgs Boson particles. Pretty heady stuff, so it was apropo that I prepped my head for the talk:
That’s me straining to understand quantum mechanics. The inside of my head was something like this:
The talk, itself, was fascinating and afterwards Maria showed off an experiment with superconductivity. You can see a short video here: http://youtu.be/nxHBtt3Er3o Neat stuff!
We meandered around after the talk and happened upon a fun little contraption taking pictures of water drops. Of course, I couldn’t help having some fun with it. Here are the results:
Yeah, that 2nd one is a picture of my butt. Couldn’t help myself.
That pretty much sums up how I left SF. With a splash!
I did mention something about a late night confessional. Before I parted ways with my friend we had a quick dinner. Somehow our conversation led to me revealing some deep emotional tidbits. I don’t often share these things with my friends unless they are significant people in my life. I just wanted to say thanks for listening, J. 🙂
That’s all. The rabbit is now in Vegas!
